Presenters

Jeff

Dr. Jeff King is the Director of TCU's Koehler Center for Teaching Excellence, coming to TCU from the position of Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Kaplan University. Jeff's focus throughout his faculty development career has been on the shift from the teaching to the learning paradigm and the integral role learning outcomes play as a part of that process. He is currently the faculty development consultant working with two Arkansas colleges on a National Science Foundation grant targeting manufacturing and technology postsecondary education. Prior to that, Jeff has been faculty development consultant on a Title III, FIPSE, and another NSF grant. Along the way he has also served as Co-Director of a college Institutional Effectiveness Office while it prepared itself for SACS accreditation and the initial site visit (which resulted in accreditation). Regional accreditors' shift to a strong focus on learning outcomes means Jeff's background and experience mesh well with this workshop's focus on success with college faculty and with college centers of teaching effectiveness.

Romy

Romana (Romy) Hughes is the Assistant Director of the Koehler Center for Teaching Excellence at Texas Christian University. Her primary duties are to support and research teaching strategies, promote teaching excellence, and manage TCU's content management system. Romy also is an instructional designer and supports and implements new technologies in the classroom at TCU. Romy has numerous years teaching in higher education along with project management experience. She is a frequent presenter at higher education conferences and symposia on successful and innovative uses of technology to improve student learning. Romy earned her graduate degree from TCU and her undergraduate degree from Dallas Baptist University.

Mark

Mark White is the Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at Clarkson College, Nebraska. As an award-winning Teacher of the Year in the elementary grades, Mark has brought engaging active learning lesson design to collegiate lecture-based classrooms both online and face to face. White has developed and taught several online courses and spearheaded a number of hybrid models. Through multiple presentations, conferences, and workshops around the country, White promotes engaging learning models and technology integration to improve both online and face-to-face college classroom instruction.
